Behind The Eyes: A Love Letter to Portraiture
Soft pastel portraiture from award-winning Ayrshire artist Wendy Greig, built on the belief that the eyes are the gateway to the soul.
by Wendy Greig
Wendy Greig is a freehand pastel, local artist based in Ayrshire, Scotland. Having retired as a nurse for the NHS, she has always enjoyed being around people and hearing their stories. This has translated into her portraiture, where her work focuses on photo realistic detail, capturing the essence of her subjects. She believes that the eyes are the gateway to the soul and this is reflected in her work.
A well known member at the Troon Art Club, she has won the Copper Palette prize voted by visitors in 2018, 2019 and 2022. Her portraits have also won the visitors vote at the North Ayrshire Open Art Exhibition and New Cunningham Art Exhibition in West Kilbride, and more recently won the portrait exhibition run by SAC and the Electric Brae Gallery.
“Behind the Eyes” is a love letter to portraiture. Wendy brings her paintings to life using soft pastels on pastelmat paper with acute attention to detail. She wants people to be drawn into her portraits through their eyes, making the viewer wonder about the circumstances and lives of the subjects she has chosen to paint.
