Blank Canvas Presents: Amy Grogan’s Exhibition Opening: The Factory Tour

Welcome to the factory floor. Not your conventional exhibition opening, but an immersive guided experience through a space where sculptures are made to be eaten. Equipped with PPE, visitors will move through a series of production stages, encountering works in progress and finished pieces invited to taste it all. Blending sculpture, performance, and participation, the tour offers a playful insight into making, inviting you to become part of the process rather than simply observe it.

About Amy’s Residency

Amy Grogan’s Blank Canvas residency transforms the studio into a functioning sculptural “factory” centred on the continuous production of edible artworks. Drawing from industrial systems such as assembly lines, repetitive processes and production workflows, her project merges food, sculpture and performance through playful, material‑led experimentation.

Working with food‑safe silicone and reusable cornstarch moulds, Grogan researches sustainable mould‑making techniques alongside the development of stable food‑based sculptural materials. Factory research visits in Ayr inform both the layout and operation of the space, grounding the project within local industrial and community contexts.

The factory operates as both a working studio and a public‑facing installation, inviting visitors to observe production, experimentation and material testing in real time. Public engagement unfolds through informal interactions, demonstrations and workshops focused on edible casting and mould‑making. The final presentation takes the form of an immersive “factory tour,” guiding audiences through different stages of production and offering samples of the edible works — blurring the boundaries between industry, sculpture, participation and consumption.
